3 Signs You May Have TMJ Issues

We’re here to help you stay on top of your oral health, and we know that TMJ issues can be a real pain—literally! Catching the signs early can make a big difference. Here are three signs you may have TMJ issues.

Jaw Pain or Tenderness

One of the most common signs of TMJ issues is persistent jaw pain or tenderness. This discomfort might be felt in your jaw, face, neck, or even shoulders. If you notice soreness when chewing, speaking, or yawning, it could be a sign that your TMJ needs attention.

Clicking or Popping Sounds

Hearing clicking, popping, or grating sounds when you open or close your mouth is another indication of TMJ problems. These sounds can occur when chewing or simply moving your jaw. While not always painful, they can signal that your jaw joint isn’t functioning correctly.

Difficulty Opening or Closing Your Mouth

If you experience difficulty opening your mouth wide or find that your jaw gets stuck or locked in certain positions, it could be a sign of TMJ issues. This can interfere with everyday activities like eating and speaking, making it essential to seek professional help.

Recognizing these signs early can help prevent further discomfort and complications. If you suspect you have TMJ issues, don’t hesitate to visit our team at Midland Park Family Dentistry.
